Do I need to have the emergency insert key cut?

If your key includes an emergency insert key, yes, it typically needs to be cut to match your vehicle before use. Cutting the emergency insert key is separate from programming the remote.

What the emergency insert key is for

It's a mechanical backup built to manually unlock your vehicle if the remote battery dies, the remote itself is damaged, or the keyless entry system is temporarily unavailable. It ships uncut, so it won't work until it's been cut to match your vehicle's locks.

Cutting and programming are two different jobs

Cutting shapes the blade so it physically fits your vehicle's locks. Programming pairs the remote, and the transponder chip if there is one, with your vehicle's security system. You may need one, the other, or both depending on your vehicle.
